Chateau V
This chateau, located in Belgium, has been used for many purposes and it's probably the oldest castle in town. It is mentioned in the twelfth century and was later the residence of abbots and bishops. The stately building is often restored, remodeled and rebuilt.
The first chateau was build in the 12th century by the governor of the city, and In 1395 the Count of Flanders sold the castle to the St. Bavo's Abbey. The castle then served as the countryhouse of the abbots. During the 16th century, the castle was the residence of the bishops untill it was damaged in 1583. The castle was put up for sale after the French Revolution in 1795, as national property. During the following years, the castle has several owners untill 1948, when the castle was acquired by the Belgian State to transform it into a boarding school for children of sailors and travelers.
The building is being restored now and will most likely be sold soon.
Sadly, we couldn't get inside, so I only have one picture of the exterior.
